Improved 2013 High Adventure Camps!

Last year, after many years doing without, we re-introduced “High Adventure Trip Camp” to our summer programming selection. It was quite an adventure, with off camp whitewater rafting in the Potomac, caving near Shephardstown, and hiking at Harper’s Ferry. Even the time that we had together in the van was an adventure, with stronger friendships being built on the road in a matter of hours than many campers develop during an entire week!
This year, we are offering three high adventure camps, and we’ve changed our whitewater location to the Youghiogheny River in PA. The change will give us a safe, but slightly more intense experience than last year… in response to the feedback from our campers! The trips, in addition to adventures on camp like our newly completed high ropes course (two more levels than last year, a new zip and a new giant swing), makes High Adventure the perfect camp for high school youth who have been attending for years and are looking for a more exciting week at camp!
In addition to the great trips, High Adventure is set apart from trip camps offered elsewhere in two very important ways. First, every trip off camp property is led by one of Highroad’s full-time, year-round staff. Which means that every trip has an adult, in addition to the two unit counselors, accompanying and looking out for your campers while off-camp. The staff chaperones are all certified lifeguards, and have additional training that ranges from 1st aid/CPR to EMT certification. Second, the goal of the entire trip camp experience is to build solid relationships with our High Adventure campers through our week together, to share Christ’s love for them with them, and to use the opportunities presented by the time that we have off camp to model faith and Christlike behavior outside of the camp setting… which is the ultimate goal for all of our campers! This focus on the gospel, and how we live it, creates a totally different and much healthier atmosphere when off camp then many campers have experienced elsewhere!
