LOVETTSVILLE CHARGE LENDS A HAND
On Sunday April 24th, 17 youth and adults from the Lovettsville Charge
(Bethel and Mount Pleasant UMC's) on the Winchester District came to Camp Highroad to give us a hand preparing the camp for the upcoming season. They raked Pioneer Camp Sites, dug out the Picnic Area Fire Pit, reset campfire rings at all our campsites, and raked and mulched the front of Oak Lodge. It's amazing how much work was accomplished in only 2 hours with such a motivated group! Our sincere appreciation for this wonderful service to the camp. |
SLEEPY HOLLOW CABIN ALMOST COMPLETED
"Sleepy Hollow" The first cabin completely adopted by a church (Sleepy Hollow U.M.C.) is nearing completion. Ralph Maxwell, one of the driving forces behind the adoption, is leading a wonderful crew of volunteers in this worthwhile effort.
This wonderful story started with a presentation by our camp Executive Director given to the Sleepy Hollow United Methodist Men. The men heard a call to serve and, supported and encouraged by their pastor, Rev. Pam Egan, they decided to make the cabin adoption a church wide project. Ralph Maxwell came to camp and met with Rick Dawson, our executive director, and selected the cabin to be done. Photographs of the work to be done were taken and Ralph Maxwell designed and led the fund raising effort and soon had the $5,000 needed to adopt a cabin. Work started with a Saturday event in March and continued with another workday in April. They believe that one more day will complete the initial stage of the project.
Camp Highroad is truly appreciative of this effort. Three more of our cabins have been adopted and will be worked on between now and the end of summer. Our hats are off to Gainesville U.M.C., Nokesville U.M.C., Arcola U.M.C. and Centreville U.M.C. for all the hard work they have put into our summer camp area. If your church is looking for a way to be involved in the life of the camp and help this ministry please call Rick at 540-687-3346 and ask for a presentation.
