Frequently Asked Questions: [CLICK HERE]
What is your best camping area for scouts?
An experienced scout master recently informed us that our Locust Grove area is perfect for troop campouts because it is a dedicated group tent site with potable, running water (even during the winter), a pavilion, and multiple patrol fire rings. The Pioneer Units are ideal if you’re looking to split your troop up into different areas, as they posses three self-contained camping areas.
Can you do merit badge counseling on site?
Our Naturalist is happy to design a guided hike or nature class that will help your scouts fulfill requirements towards their nature merit badges. Simply set-up an overnight campout with a nature programming block, and then contact firstname.lastname@example.org to let him know what you would like to focus on.
Do you have hiking trails?
Yes, camp offers five miles of roads and hiking trails that are perfect if your troop is training for a high adventure trek like Philomont or Lenhoskin. Trail maps are available here!
What about firewood?
Any unit staying overnight in Pioneer, Locust Grove, the Ballfield, the cabins, or the lodges will receive a load of firewood at their site. (Units staying in the Outback and our wilderness camping areas must collect their own firewood). After the first load, additional wood costs $25.00 per load or you can collect more from the woods. Please make sure that any firewood that your scouts collect is fully dead. Live redbuds and dogwoods don’t burn very well, as some scouts have learned in the past!
How long does it take EMS to reach your camp and what is the closest hospital?
It takes Emergency Services about five minutes to reach Highroad from Philomont, VA where they are located. The closest hospital for medical treatment, not requiring an ambulance, is the Loudoun Hospital Campus located at 224 Cornwall Street NW, Leesburg, VA 20175.
How many people can your camp hold?
Our main camp cabin area can sleep 214 in cabins and other buildings, our lodges can sleep 100, and our tent camping areas (especially the Outback and Presgrave areas used for Camporees) can hold well over 1,000. If your group exceeds these numbers, let us know and we will find a way to meet your needs!
Do you have indoor, rainy-day space?
We have multiple buildings in main camp that we use for indoor activities. Those buildings are included in the Deluxe Weekend Camporee Package and we would be happy to tell you more about them. Give us a call at 540-687-6262 to learn more.
